5 ways to beat jealousy

women stare each other downYou’re out with friends when the hottest guy you’ve ever seen approaches. You quickly check your appearance is ‘tight’ and give him your best smile. He approaches. leans in, and asks your friend to dance.

They’re on the dancefloor, bumping, grinding, and having the time of their lives. There are countless other guys in the club, but you want him…your face is burning red and you clench your fists.

Why does she always get the best guys?

In this section we will focus on fighting back when jealousy strikes. Everyone feels jealous at some point, but when this jealousy lingers for too long we end up wasting precious time that we’ll never get back.

When jealousy starts to loom its ugly head, try to remember these words. If you need to, print these off or write them down so you can take them with you, don’t be ashamed to do so.

1. The grass is always greener

You know it’s true. Everyone has some unhappiness in their lives, no matter how big or small they may seem. The gorgeous woman at work may be lonely. The popular guy at the gym may be bankrupt. Your best friend’s boyfriend may be abusive behind closed doors. It’s a slightly depressing view of things, but it’s true. You never know what someone else is going through, so be grateful for what you have.

2. Improve your life

Sometimes jealousy can be productive, for example, if you’re unhappy with your physique and have a slim, toned best friend who looks like a fitness model, instead of turning green every time she enters the room, get fit. If a family member is rolling in cash, ask them how they became so successful, try and get a promotion or go over your finances until you’ve got more money to spare too.

3. Your time will come

Sometimes life just doesn’t go your way, but remember that eventually your time will come. One day the best looking man in the room will ask you to dance, one day you’ll be as fit as your personal trainer, or one day…In the mean time, focus on improving your self esteem and confidence.

4. I love my life!

When jealous looms on the horizon it’s because we’re focusing on what we lack in our lives that someone else has. Instead of being negative, go over what you like/love about your life. Maybe you don’t have a husband yet, but what about your great friends. You might not be as wealthy as you’d like to be, but you’ve got a roof over your head and food on the table. Try and list as many parts of your life that appreciate and wouldn’t want to live without.

5. Distract yourself

If all else fails, just distract yourself. Just like with cravings for naughty snacks, if you distract yourself the negative feelings disappear. They may come back another day, but for now you win. The more battles you win, the longer negativity goes away for… One day it might go away for good.
