Hello to all the new subscribers!

Alicia Keys has reportedly taken on Swizz Beats (her fiance and father of her unborn child) as her manager. I think this is a HUGE mistake. It’s bad enough that he has a history as an unfaithful man, jumped straight from one marriage with child to another, writing/producing for her records, and now he’ll be managing her career?

Beyonce and Jay-Z have the perfect business and pleasure mixture. They work together in ways that would be all right if they ever separated. Beyonce could perform her songs he features on with another rapper OR cut out the raps altogether. Jay-Z could get another singer on the songs she features on, and possibly cut those portions out. Duets on singles and buying houses together isn’t as hands on as managing or signing to each other’s labels.

Take heed, Alicia. Christina Milian jumped onto The Dream’s label, and now he’s jumped onto someone else during their trial separation. Milian’s record is in his hands and now every sale puts money in his pocket.

Remember, Healthy Black Queens, keep your business and pleasure separate. You don’t need to marry your partner and work with him. You don’t need to share your bed with someone and your business. You don’t need to connect every part of your life with the person you love.

Michael Jackson RIP

I can’t believe that it’s been a year already.

I’ll always remember how I heard about it. I was online and saw a MJ is dead post on a forum. I didn’t believe it at first because earlier last year another Michael Jackson died. I’d panicked, opened the thread and realised the person was talking about someone else. Unfortunately, this time it was MJ.

I hope that his killer(s) get what’s coming to them, Sony people who are trying to milk him dry get what’s coming to them, everyone who scrounged used him get off their backsides and find a job, and his children and mother live long and happy lives to fulfil their dreams.

The animosity towards natural hair is common knowledge in the black community. Many fear that employers won’t hire them if they wear their natural hair, so they turn to relaxing, texturising, hair extensions, etc. Could employers be changing their minds? Was the ‘natural hair vs corporate America’ battle unfounded? We’ll see, but right now American Apparel wants natural hair only!

It’s not just straight hair that’s unwelcome. You’ll see whether you fit AA’s strict standards by clicking here.

Any discrimination is wrong! I wear my natural hair with pride, but I respect others and the hair they choose to wear. Your preferences should not affect your right to work somewhere. You should be chosen based on merit and talent. AA could easily find black girls who wear neat and tidy straight-hair instead of rainbow-coloured atrocities you see on places like MediaTakeOut (not that I go there, I’m just saying…). One step forward and one step back.

What are you looking forward to?

What are you looking forward to?

Our motivation is always at its peak when we have something exciting to look forward to.  Of course having a stable frame of mind, hot, healthy body, and fantastic hair is great, but those goals are long term. What about right now?

Instead of waiting to celebrate weeks, months or years from now, find something to be excited about right now. It could be anything, big or small, private or public.

Here are some examples:

-seeing a loved one for afternoon lunch.

-a juicy treat at the end of the week when you have stayed within your calorie range all week.

-a spa treatment at the end of the month.

-new shoes/clothes if you meet your next goal on time.

Regularly getting excited and meeting goals will keep your motivation pumped. It is easier to keep your happiness peaked instead of having to drag yourself out of the doldrums. Always have something to look forward to, and try to choose something that is coming soon. Note the date on your calendar, mobile or set reminders as the time draws closer.
